LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Vernon Precision Machining is a machining shop in Baie-Saint-Paul that also administers a small in-house training program for new entrants to the trade. We are hiring a School Secretary to run the front office of that program — attendance, files, and the day-to-day paperwork that keeps classes and shop placements moving.

On a typical day you open the office, check voicemail and email, mark attendance, and file registration forms. You answer questions from students and instructors, book rooms and equipment, and keep the program calendar current. You prepare supply orders and simple reports, and you pass more technical questions to the shop supervisor.

What you'll be doing

  • Front office. Answer phone calls, emails, and walk-in questions from students and instructors, and route technical matters to the shop supervisor.
  • Records. Mark attendance and keep student files, registration forms, and training records up to date.
  • Scheduling. Book rooms and equipment, and maintain the program calendar and instructor timetables.
  • Supplies and reporting. Prepare purchase orders for office and shop supplies, and compile simple attendance and progress reports.

What they're asking for

  • Language. English — CLB 5 (intermediate) is required for written and spoken communication with staff and students.
  • Education. No degree required; secondary school diploma or equivalent is an asset.
  • Experience. None required; this is an entry-level role and training will be provided.
  • Tickets. No certification required; basic first aid is an asset but not a condition of hire.

What the employer offers

  • Pay extras. Overtime is paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week.
  • Gear. Uniform allowance provided for office wear, plus a yearly allowance for safety footwear for shop-floor visits.
  • Leave. Three weeks of paid vacation after the first year, and paid statutory holidays as set out in Quebec labour standards.
