About this role

Hay River Mechanical is a small mechanical contractor in Bedford, QC, serving commercial and light industrial clients across the Montérégie. We are adding a recruiter to help us fill field and shop positions as our crew grows, and we are willing to train someone who is organized and comfortable on the phone.

The day is spent mostly on the phone and in front of a screen: calling applicants, screening them against what each job needs, booking interviews with the shop manager, and posting ads to job boards and local groups. You keep track of who is at what stage in a simple spreadsheet, send follow-up emails, and prepare offer letters. Some weeks you will visit job fairs or trade school offices in the area.

What you'll be doing

  • Screening. Call and interview applicants by phone, confirm their tickets and availability, and pass qualified candidates to the hiring manager.
  • Posting. Write and place job ads on job boards, local classifieds, and trade school notice boards, and refresh them on a regular schedule.
  • Tracking. Keep the applicant spreadsheet current, schedule interviews, and send reminders and follow-up emails.
  • Onboarding. Prepare offer letters and collect the paperwork new hires need before their first shift.

What they're asking for

  • Language. Working English and French, spoken and written, for interviews and correspondence with applicants across the region.
  • Education. Secondary school diploma or equivalent, or relevant work experience in its place.
  • No experience needed. We will train the right person on our screening process, our ticket requirements, and the software we use.
  • Organization. Comfortable keeping track of several open roles at once and following up without being reminded.

What the employer offers

  • Training. Paid onboarding on our hiring process and the trades we staff for, with a senior staff member available for questions.
  • Benefits. Group health and dental coverage after three months.
  • Leave. Two weeks of paid vacation in the first year, plus statutory holidays.
