LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Whitehorse Carpentry Collective is a worker-run carpentry shop in Bécancour, Quebec, building custom frames, millwork and small timber structures for regional contractors and homeowners. We are adding an assistant to our small administrative team to keep hiring, onboarding and payroll paperwork in order as the shop grows.

The day is spent in the office beside the shop floor: posting jobs, booking interviews, preparing new-hire packages, tracking hours and answering staff questions about pay, leave and training. You will report to the collective's coordinator and work closely with the site lead, so you will hear a lot of sawdust and shop talk along the way.

What you'll be doing

  • Recruitment support. Post openings, screen applications and schedule interviews for shop and office roles.
  • Onboarding paperwork. Prepare new-hire packages, collect SIN and banking details and file completed forms.
  • Timekeeping. Enter crew hours weekly, flag discrepancies and pass records to payroll.
  • Records and questions. Keep personnel files current and answer routine staff questions about leave, benefits and training.

What they're asking for

  • Education. Secondary school diploma or equivalent; a certificate in administration or human resources is an asset.
  • Experience. None required; we will train a candidate who is organized and careful with confidential information.
  • Language. Functional French and English for correspondence with staff and provincial bodies.
  • Tickets. No trade certification needed; a valid Canadian work permit is required.

What the employer offers

  • Pay extras. Overtime paid at time and a half after 40 hours a week.
  • Cover. Group health and dental benefits after three months of continuous employment.
  • Leave. Two weeks of paid vacation plus paid statutory holidays.
