LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Prairie Sky HVAC Services is a heating and ventilation contractor serving Albanel and the surrounding Lac-Saint-Jean area. We keep a shop, a parts room and a small office running, and we need someone to take care of the cleaning so the crews can focus on the work.

Most days you will be on your feet moving through the shop and office: sweeping, mopping, wiping down surfaces, emptying bins and keeping the washrooms and lunchroom in order. You will work alongside the trades but report to the shop supervisor, and the pace picks up in winter when road salt and slush come in the door.

What you'll be doing

  • Floor care. Sweep, mop and vacuum the shop floor, office and lunchroom, including entry mats and stairs.
  • Washroom cleaning. Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks and mirrors, and restock soap, paper and hand towels.
  • Waste handling. Empty garbage and recycling bins throughout the building and take bags to the outdoor containers.
  • Surface cleaning. Wipe down desks, counters, door handles and the lunchroom appliances on a set schedule.

What they're asking for

  • No experience needed. We will train the right person on our cleaning products, schedule and safety rules.
  • WHMIS training. Current WHMIS certification is an asset; we will arrange training for the successful candidate.
  • Physical fitness. Able to lift up to 20 kg, stand for most of the shift and work with cleaning solutions.
  • Language. Working French is required for instructions and safety briefings; functional English is an asset.

What the employer offers

  • Boot allowance. Up to $125 per year toward CSA-approved work footwear.
  • Supplies provided. All cleaning products, tools and personal protective equipment are supplied by the shop.
  • Paid leave. Two weeks of paid vacation after the first year, plus statutory holidays.

About cleaning and housekeeping work in Canada

What the work is

Cleaners and housekeepers maintain offices, hotels, hospitals and private homes. The work covers vacuuming, mopping, disinfecting, laundry and waste handling, and often falls outside normal hours because buildings are cleaned while they are empty.

What employers usually ask for

Formal qualifications are rarely required. Employers look for reliability, attention to detail, and enough English or French to follow instructions and read safety labels on chemicals. Roles in healthcare and childcare settings usually require a criminal record check.

If you are applying from outside Canada

Healthcare cleaning is the part of this category most likely to require a police check and health screening, so allow time for those before you can start. Hotel housekeeping is a common first job for newcomers because hiring is quick and often done on site. Pay in this category is usually close to the provincial minimum wage — check what that is in the province you are targeting before you commit.
