LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Qu'Appelle Valley Excavating keeps a small staff accommodation and office block in Albro Lake, and we need a housekeeping attendant to look after both. The work is routine cleaning and laundry for a crew that comes and goes on site schedules, so the rooms have to be turned over quickly and kept to a consistent standard.

A typical day starts with checking the room list and gathering supplies, then making beds, changing linens, vacuuming, mopping and wiping down bathrooms and kitchens. You will run laundry through the machines, restock paper and soap, bag waste for pickup, and log anything that needs repair. Most of the building is empty while you clean, and you will work on your own for long stretches.

What you'll be doing

  • Room turnover. Make beds, change linens and reset rooms to the posted standard between crew arrivals.
  • Surface cleaning. Vacuum, mop, dust and disinfect bathrooms, kitchens and common areas.
  • Laundry. Sort, wash, dry and fold linens and towels, and keep the linen store stocked.
  • Waste and supplies. Bag waste for pickup, restock paper and soap, and report low stock or damage.

What they're asking for

  • Experience. None required; we will train the right person on our room standards.
  • Physical fitness. Able to stand, bend and lift up to 20 kg through a full shift.
  • Reliability. Punctual and able to work unsupervised once trained.
  • Language. Comfortable following written checklists and safety instructions in English.

What the employer offers

  • Pay premium. Weekend shifts are paid at time and a half.
  • Gear. Uniform shirts, gloves and cleaning supplies are provided.
  • Leave. Vacation pay is included on every cheque.

About cleaning and housekeeping work in Canada

What the work is

Cleaners and housekeepers maintain offices, hotels, hospitals and private homes. The work covers vacuuming, mopping, disinfecting, laundry and waste handling, and often falls outside normal hours because buildings are cleaned while they are empty.

What employers usually ask for

Formal qualifications are rarely required. Employers look for reliability, attention to detail, and enough English or French to follow instructions and read safety labels on chemicals. Roles in healthcare and childcare settings usually require a criminal record check.

If you are applying from outside Canada

Healthcare cleaning is the part of this category most likely to require a police check and health screening, so allow time for those before you can start. Hotel housekeeping is a common first job for newcomers because hiring is quick and often done on site. Pay in this category is usually close to the provincial minimum wage — check what that is in the province you are targeting before you commit.
