About this role

Tofino Surf Shop & Rentals is an independent surf shop and rental outlet in Bedford, NS, selling boards, wetsuits and beach gear and renting equipment to visitors and locals through the season. We are hiring a Marketing Assistant to help get the shop in front of the right people — online, in the neighbourhood and on the water.

The day is split between the desk and the floor. You will schedule social posts, take photos and short video of new stock and rentals, answer messages and reviews, keep the website and listings current, and put together simple flyers and signs. You will also help set up for weekend events and clinics, and track what is actually bringing people through the door so we can do more of it.

What you'll be doing

  • Content creation. Photograph new boards, wetsuits and rental gear, and turn the shots into posts and short videos for our social channels.
  • Social media. Schedule and publish posts, reply to comments and messages, and keep a simple content calendar running week to week.
  • Website and listings. Update product pages, rental rates, hours and event details, and keep our online listings accurate.
  • Event support. Help plan, set up and promote weekend clinics and in-store events, then report on turnout and sales.

What they're asking for

  • Education. A high school diploma or equivalent; some coursework or self-taught experience in marketing or communications is an asset.
  • Experience. None required — we will train the right person, including recent graduates and career changers.
  • Technical comfort. Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook and basic photo editing on a phone or computer.
  • Availability. Able to work weekends and some evenings during the summer season, and to be on your feet outdoors in shop and beach conditions.

What the employer offers

  • Staff discount. Discounts on shop merchandise and rentals for personal use.
  • Gear and cover. Rain jacket and shop apparel provided, plus sunscreen and water on outdoor days.
  • Flexible scheduling. Shifts planned two weeks ahead, with flexibility around school or family commitments outside the summer peak.
