LMIA approved. This employer is approved to hire a foreign worker into this role, which is what lets a work permit be issued for it. It does not by itself make you eligible.

About this role

Rivière-du-Loup Toiture is a roofing and sheet metal shop serving Antigonish and the surrounding county. The shop fabricates flashing, caps, drip edge and custom metal pieces for its own crews, and we are adding a machinist to run and look after that side of the work.

Days are spent at the machines and the bench: setting up the lathe and mill, cutting and forming sheet metal, checking parts against drawings, and keeping the shop clean and organized. You will work alongside the fabricators and roofers, so the pieces you make go out on the trucks the same week.

What you'll be doing

  • Machine setup. Set up and operate the lathe, mill and drill press for small production runs and one-off parts.
  • Sheet metal work. Cut, bend and form flashing and custom metal pieces to match shop drawings.
  • Quality checks. Measure finished parts with calipers and squares and flag anything out of tolerance.
  • Shop upkeep. Clean and lubricate machines, keep stock organized and report tooling that needs replacing.

What they're asking for

  • Entry level welcome. No prior shop experience is required; we will train the right person on our machines and methods.
  • Mechanical aptitude. Comfort reading a tape measure and basic drawings, and willingness to learn to read micrometers and calipers.
  • Safety. Follow shop safety rules and wear the required PPE at all times.
  • Transportation. Able to get to the Antigonish shop for a daytime start.

What the employer offers

  • Training. Paid time on the machines with an experienced fabricator beside you for the first months.
  • Gear. Safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection provided, plus a boot allowance after probation.
  • Benefits. Health and dental coverage after three months, and overtime paid at time and a half.
